It took me ages to find my perfect shade from Make Up Forevers’ extensive foundation selection and I got it in the liquid form because it was more suitable for daily usage. I enjoyed it so much and used it exclusively until it ran out.
When I went to repurchase the same, my shade in the liquid foundation was out of stock and I've been curious to try the stick foundation for ages and have been hesitant on how it would work with my combination (dry/ oily).I picked it up instead and here is what i think about it.
I was lucky to get colour matched by the makeup artist perfectly, I went for shade 153 =Y405 and it feels comfortable as a colour and doesn’t oxidise(fancy word for gets darker on the skin after application) on my skin.
Formula: Its a solid stick, not too creamy when you apply it and that is why I make sure I moisturise well before I use it to avoid it settling in fine lines especially around my eyes and mouth. Im sure if i use a primer to tackle my pore areas and combination skin it would glide even better, but I don't currently have a go to primer and I would love to hear your suggestions on primers for combinations skin types.
Coverage: This one definitely can give you the highest coverage for a flawless canvas. However, you can still control it and apply very minimum amount of products especially on your problem areas, like a concealer, then blend it out.
Application: I feel that it dries rather quickly when I apply it to my skin, so I tend to do my face in two sections. apply it to half of my face, blend it in then do the other half to avoid it setting before i get a chance to blend it. But I spend time when I blend this one to make sure there are no streaks for how it applies.
You could also apply it to your brush then to your face, its really how you prefer using it. When I mix it in with my Nars concealer (the Soft Matte complete Concealer in shade Caramel) it gives me a more flawless coverage and makes it much easier to blend.
Finish: Its definitely on the matt end of the spectrum but if you don't over do it with the application, it will not look heavy and cakey.
Set it or not? If you don't suffer with any oily patches around your face then you don't necessarily have to powder it. I tend to use a translucent powder especially around my t - zone and pore areas to make sure it combats any oil build up during the day.
Longevity: It is definitely a long wear foundation, it doesn't break apart on my skin throughout my regular day routine. However, if i have had a long day in the hot humid Muscat, I notice it ‘disappears in certain areas, mostly around my nose and mouth area but bare in mind, I use it sparingly on these days and that could be why.
Versatile: With the great variety of shades available and the consistency of the foundation, you can select the right shades to use it as a contour and highlight stick too.
Would I recommend it? Definitely, I have fallen in love with Make Up Forevers’ foundations, both liquid and stick. The stick is more versatile and will give you that flawless coverage if that is what you are looking for.
