After I was done with my awkward make up ‘trial and error’ phase as a teenager I found myself in a safe zone with make-up. Keeping in mind I experimented with really dark brown lip colors in my teen years (and I might have evidence from those days that need to be destroyed), I made a shift to pink - nude neutrals ever since…until I discovered the world of Red.
I never thought red would be a color that suits me or a color that I would have the courage to wear. Here is a list of my current favorite red lip products that I hope would inspire you to explore this it if you haven't already.
Sephora 01 Lip Cream: I picked this up because of the shade of red, the best way I can describe it is a “true blood red”. The formula is probably the best out of the bunch, it’s a lip cream, highly pigmented, very long lasting - food and drink resistant - and comfortable on the lips you forget you have it on. It is really creamy when you’re applying, so lining your lips beforehand will help. Ticks all my boxes.
Blake’s Collection Exclusive Pure Reds Lipstick Collection: Earlier this year on a trip to London I came across the exclusive collection from L’oreal at Superdrug. I wasn't sure if these were shades that suited each celebrity’s skin tones or shades that they developed with L’oreal. I picked up Blake’s red and it’s on the brighter end of red. I use MAC’s cherry lip liner to line and fill my lips before applying it to create more depth. With its matt finish and long lasting power, I’ve enjoyed wearing it and receive many compliments on the shade of red. I guess it wasn’t madefor Blake exclusively.
MAC’s Russian Red: I’m very nostalgic when it comes to this one. My first ever red lipstick was Russian Red. It’s a true red, matt lipstick - picked up on the matt trend yet? and I would recommend lining your lips to get a neat finish, the bullet doesn't offer precise application and I personally fill my lips too to strengthen its lasting power a little longer.
Nars Cruella: On the deeper side of red is Cruella from Nars. A beautiful deep red shade, applies with a creamy texture and dries of matt. Nars matt lip pencils are always highly recommended by me, they are very easy to apply and wear.
I hope this has been helpful whether you're looking for a red lip or haven't tried a red lip before. Its winter and its definitely time for those deeper lip shades. Do share your favorite reds too.
